Climate Journalism Workshop Wraps Up in Islamabad

ENVIRONMENTAL JOURNALISM WORKSHOP CONCLUDES IN ISLAMABAD

Islamabad, November 2, 2025 – A two-day national training workshop on “Environmental and Disaster Journalism” concluded yesterday at the CSS Institute in Islamabad. The workshop, organized by ProtectEarth Consultants in collaboration with several partners, brought together over 70 media professionals, government representatives, academics, and emerging journalists.

The workshop aimed to equip journalists with critical knowledge and field-based skills to report effectively on disasters, environmental degradation, and climate change. Speakers emphasized the importance of responsible environmental journalism in shaping public understanding of climate change and disaster risk.

Dr. Ahmed Ali Sirohey, Director General of the Crisis Management Unit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated the workshop and highlighted the impact of climate-induced disasters on global security and humanitarian landscapes.

Muhammad Azmat Qazi, Chief Executive of ProtectEarth Consultants, stressed the need for preventive journalism and early warning communication in disaster reporting. “Responsible environmental journalism is not just about facts – it’s about saving lives,” he said.

The workshop featured technical sessions on plastic and air pollution, environmental and disaster reporting, and climate change challenges and opportunities. Participants also discussed the importance of emotional stability and knowledge for journalists covering disasters.

The workshop concluded with a certificate awarding ceremony, recognizing the participants’ commitment to environmental journalism. The recordings of the sessions will be available on YouTube as open-source resources.

The event was organized in collaboration with The CSS Institute, Momentum Development Foundation, and Resilient Future International, with Momentum Development Foundation serving as the Media and Technology Partner.
