Heavy hailstorms wreak havoc on crops and livestock in Bajaur district

BAJAUR: Heavy hailstorms accompanied by torrential rain have destroyed standing crops of wheat, fruit gardens, vegetables and many of cattle were killed in District Bajaur on Sunday.

Farmers said the hailstorms continued for several minutes in the area and then resumed intermittently, destroying standing wheat crops, orchards, and various types of vegetables.

The growers said that the impact of the storm was so severe and prolonged that nothing was left standing in the fields, even the leaves of the trees were destroyed and only their stems remained.

The badly hit villages are Gharshmozai, Charmang Manogai, Raghagan, Bartrass shamozai, Mola Kali, Salarzai Sargand banda, Alizai Dag, Seri sar, Hayati, and various other regions
Social workers and political leaders of Bajaur demanded that the district be declared a disaster area and the provincial government appoint a team to assess the damage caused by the cyclone and that the farmers be financially compensated by the KP government, for which the social activists of Bajaur started a trend on the micro-blogging website Twitter to declare Bajaur as a disaster area.

However, rain made the weather pleasant.
