Bajaur police launched  crackdown on underage drivers, motorcycle riders

BAJAUR: The police on Tuesday launched a crackdown on underage drivers, motorcycle riders and those who not holding proper driving license and detained several here in Bajaur tribal district, said a press statement.

The statement issued from the district police officer’s office here told the action was launched in line with the directive of DPO Abdul Samad Khan in view of frequent road accidents involving teenage motorcyclists in different areas of the district.

Taking serious notice over the increasing of traffic accidents in the district during the ongoing fasting month and especially the recent terrible view of motorcycle accidents which left a number of youngsters killed and wounded, the DPO has called for launching severe action to make the lives of immature youngster safe and secure , said the statement.

To implement the instruction, it said that the police personnel have established blockade on several link roads, streets and along the police stations across the district.

The statement stated that dozens of motorcyclists mostly youngsters and some those who riding the bikes without helmets have been arrested in the first day of action.

The statement said that all the detainee motorcyclists who have been shifted to their relevant police stations for legal action, were later released after their parents and guardians visited the stations and paid the payment of fines imposed on them.  

It said the parents and guardians have also submitted written affidavits to the police officials “that their children would not ride motorcycle and drive vehicles in future” and they would be responsible for any consequences if their children cold violate the affirmation.

Moreover, it said the police have also declared the use of hamlet obligatory for motorcyclists in the district, saying no one would be allowed to ride motorcycle without helmet.

Similarly, the statement stated that the police have also imposed ban on vehicle driving by underage and without driving licensee, stating that strict action would be taken those who violate the order.

The statement said the district police officer Abdul Samad Khan has requested all  the parents to extend their support with police in discouraging the unlawful trend of motorcycle riding by the under age and teenager boys  by not giving the motorcycle to them.

In separate development, the district administration has also imposed ban on motorcycle riding by teenagers and pillion riding to save the lives of youngsters in the district.

According to  a statement issued from  the DC office, the decision to impose ban on motorcycle riding by teenagers and pillion riding was taken during a meeting of senior officials presided over by deputy commissioner Iftikhar Alam.

It said the officials have expressed grave concern over the increasing of traffic accidents mostly of motorcycle in the district which killed and wounded several.

The statement told that the participants of the meeting have termed the ban, the best and productive way to discourage the growing tendency of teenage riding in the remaining days of Ramazan and in Eidul-Fitar.

According to the statement, the restriction would be implemented from today (Wednesday) and would be continued till next Friday (May 6, saying stern action would be taken who could violate the restrictions.
