BAJAUR: Senior politician and noted campaigner of introduction of constitutional rights in erstwhile Fata, Burhanuddin Khan died here, family members told on Tuesday.
They said the veteran politician who was also the former president of Awami National Party (ANP) local chapter was died of heart attack.
They told the 71 years old Burhanuddin Khan who having chest related complication for the last several months, was at home when he experienced the heart failure.
It said he was immediately shifted to the district headquarters hospital, Khar where he breathed his last.
Mr Burhanuddin Khan, who was the close relative of former ruler of Bajaur- Nawab of Bajaur Khan Abdul Subhan Khan, was the first and lone person of his land lord family till 2017 to be associated with politics.
He was an active campaigner of extension of country’s constitutional rights to the former Fata by repealing the century old draconian law Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR), said some of his close fellows, adding that he was remained in prison for many days for doing political activities and mobilizing the masses against the FCR during the FCR era.
Besides remaining the ANP local chapter president for multiple terms, they said that Mr Burhanuddin Khan was also the member of ANP both central and provincial working committee for several years.
Moreover, he also contested the National Assembly election in 1985 as an independent candidate because political party act was not extended to the former Fata.
However, he could not win the election which he contested on the lone slogan “to extend the constitutional rights to the Fata and repeal the British era FCR forever” as only the pro FCR elders were allowed to cost their vote in the election till 1997 general elections .
Mr Burhanuddin Khan was the elder brother of JI local MPA Sirajuddin Khan and close relative of provincial minister for Zakat, social welfare and women empower Anwar Zeb Khan, was laid to rest in his native Nawi killi area after funeral prayers that attended by people from all walks of life in large number.
